Thursday 29th January ~ Bosworth Marina

A misty morning, and cold. Once on the move, drove to Stenson Marina to see yesterday's recommendation - marina office closed, and no signs of any engineer's premises. Returned to "Paws" for lunch.

Started my round of phonecalls with Nigel - date agreed for BSC survey at the marina. Next came RCR for my free engine 'ole inspection, electing to take their of a service as well. In conversation, it came out that I was having heater problems and the lady on the helpdesk asked the engineers if they could also do that at the same time - bingo! Date agreed for inspection, service and heater. That saved me my next call to locate someone who could take a look. Quiet end to the day having got all the organising done. (Just have to wait now for the work)

Wednesday 28th January ~ Bosworth Marina

A better night's sleep, although still interrupted every 3 hours to stoke the stove again (a routine item now until I can get a repair). A bright sunny morning, but colder. Drove into Hinckley for my routine eye appointment - slight degrading but nothing drastic, they recommended I upgrade my lenses as they were not changed last time. Stopped at Sainsburys for own-brand items, before returning to "Paws" for lunch.

Had a look (as far as I'm able at the heater problem - fuel tank full, electrics operational - no joy. Back out again to collect more coal, then a drive down to Ashby Canal Centre to try to book Boat Safety Survey (must contact the examiner direct by phone) and ask if they could do the heater work (no, but made a recommendation for who may be able).

Quiet evening and early night.

Tuesday 27th January ~ Bosworth Marina

After yesterday's exertions followed by the torrential rain and gales overnight, I was still fairly tired. I resolved that the best use I could make of the wet and windy day was to get my food stores in rather than getting soaked trying to solve the heater problem. The stove had managed to keep pace overnight, so it could do it again today. The forecast for tomorrow is for no rain, and periods of sunshine.

Once up and ready (late), took myself in to Hinckley to Morrisons for my "big shop", returning to "Paws" for lunch (after finishing unloading the car, left over from yesterday!). After lunch, went back out again for most of the rest at a variety of other stores. Finished putting stuff away in time for dinner.

In the evening, joined the online AGM (on Zoom) for the Bradley Canal Restoration Society - after the business, they had a presentation about the options for the replacement for the old bridge on Bradley Lane (demolished and filled in when the canal closed).

Noted that today is Holocaust Memorial Day , but will miss the memorial event this year due to the BCRS AGM.

Monday 26th January ~ Drive south

Away from the house early (as usual), on a damp and cloudy morning. Did my usual stop at Straiton for fuel, then continued south (Traffic was heavy in the Edinburgh area). The day brightened as I went further south. An "incident" on the M6 just north of Knutsford held me up and after my usual fuel stop at Stoke, I arrived about an hour late.

Opening "Paws" back up again, I found that the central heating had failed - with light failing rapidly and the low temperature, it will have to wait until tomorrow for investigation. Stoked up the stove and did my best to get the heat spread around.

1st-25th January ~ At the House

"Paws" laid up at the marina, with us at the house. Celebrated Pat's birthday before Fhi flew home to Italy early morning on the 4th. Final winter vaccinations during 2nd week. Lined up my car for a service and MoT while waiting for Storm Goretti to pass through (so as not to get caught with snow or wind whilst driving south). Obtained my next set of meds early, ready for departure.
