In July 2023, the UK Government announced a cut in its funding to CRT from 2027 by more than 60% in real terms. "These proposed cuts may lead to the closure of canals and rivers, harming businesses and placing communities at risk." Les Etheridge - FBW Chair.
Over 50 organisations have come together to form "Fund Britain's Waterways" in an attempt to get adequate, guaranteed support to retain the huge environmental, economic and social benefits that Britain's thousands of miles of inland waterways provide to us all.
A rally of boats was organised for 13 August at the Mailbox, Birmingham, to highlight the situation (see photos above), and a petition to the Government can be found on FBW's website . Everyone is encouraged to sign - Everyone reaps the benefits.
