A windmill at Napton-on-the-Hill can be traced back to 1543. The current building dates from the late 19th century, and consists of a 4-floor brick tower, at one time tarred. It was converted to steam-power around 1900, and ceased operation in 1909. Having suffered as a result of neglect, a superficial restoration of doors, windows, cap and sails was carried out in 1972, but wind damage again brought it to a derelict state.
It has been a landmark at Napton since its construction, and has now been converted into a private house.
