Sea Life started out as a seal rescue centre on the west coast of Scotland in 1979. Now, they are the largest aquarium organisation in the world, with over 40 aquaria. The Trust also assist with expertise in rescue, conservation and breeding projects such as the Beluga Whale Sanctuary in Iceland (looking after two whales rescued from Shanghai). Their two sea otters (Ozzy & Ola) were rescued in Alaska after being abandoned and were brought to the specially-built pool in Birmingham, the only ones in the UK. The centres are also involved in many breeding programmes - such as seahorses.
