For some time now, the terminus at Snarestone has been at the Quarry Lane winding hole. The Ashby Canal Association (ACA) have a shop there selling hot/cold drinks and donated bric-a-brac.
The past two years, (2021-22) their restoration work has been curtailed by a requirement to repair a breach in their section of the canal above the terminus. (Prior to that, they were affected by the Covid regulations and didn't get a lot of work done. Subsequent to these, they have managed to install a stop-gate (as a seal against further breaches) and tidied the section between the gate and the end of the water.

There are beautiful moorings (owned by the ACA, north of the stop-gate, with a 24hr time limit (5 days if you are an ACA member).

To note that the winding hole is only 52ft (15.8m). Longer boats must wind at Quarry Lane (before the stop-gate) and reverse back.

Between the stop-gate and the winding hole is the pump house which had a steam-driven pump drawing water from a deep well and sending it to a water tower at Hinckley. It was built in the early 1890s.
